In the past, tile was typically only used on bathroom floors. Now, homeowners and businesses alike are taking advantage of the beauty of tile for their kitchens, backsplashes, walkways, and fireplaces. There are also many more options for tile available, ranging from classic ceramic tiles to natural stone. While tile can do wonders for the aesthetics of your home, it does come with a major drawback: it is very difficult to clean.
How to Clean Tile
Most homeowners will mop down tile to clean it. Or, with wall tile and backsplashes, they will take a wet sponge to the tile. This is actually a really bad way to clean tile. The wet mop or sponge will just push any dirt into the pores of the tile grout. If your tile is made from a permeable material, such as uncoated ceramic or natural stone, then the wet cleaning method will also push dirt into the tile as well. Instead, homeowners should always first sweep tile and then dry mop it. This will get rid of surface dirt on the tile without pushing it too far into the grout pores. Only then should a wet mop or sponge be used on the tile.
Once tile and grout has started showing signs of debris buildup, you can scrub it. The scrubbing action will aggravate the dirt so it comes to the surface. Using a rag, you can absorb the loosened dirt. Scrubbing won’t get any of the dirt which is deeply embedded in the tile and grout, but it can remove much of what is on the surface, helping the tile and grout return to its original color.
When choosing a tile cleaner, you will need to be very careful. Some cleaning chemicals can damage tile and grout. They can also strip away the protective coating and sealant, exposing the tiles and grout so they absorb more dirt.
Hire a Professional to Get Your Tile and Grout Really Clean
Unless you are prepared to spend hours scrubbing, the only way to get tile and grout clean is with a professional cleaning. At Citrus Fresh Thousand Oaks, we are proud to say that we’ve helped hundreds of homeowners and businesses revitalize their tile.
Our tile cleaning techniques are based on years of experience and knowledge about the various types of tile and stain types. We start by assessing the situation to come up with a cleaning plan. Our experts will look at the material the tile is made from, the coating type, and what substances are dirtying it (mold, oil, dirt, etc.). Our tile cleaning experts will also carefully look over the space for areas of special consideration. For example, they will note any stains or areas where the tiles are more worn down than others.
Once the Citrus Fresh Thousand Oaks experts know what they are dealing with, they will choose the right chemical cleaner for the job. The cleaning processes starts with a pretreatment designed to break down the substances in the tile and grout on a molecular level. Using a high-powered scrubber, these substances are then agitated. Agitation helps bring them to the surface so they can be removed. At this point, the tile will already look more vibrant and clean. We don’t stop here though!
Using a deep extraction tool, the tile and grout is further agitated and any remaining impurities are vacuumed out. The process ensures that tile and grout look great and are free from bacteria, germs, and mold. Our technicians will speed dry the tile and grout before inspecting it for any stains which may not have come out. If they spot any, they will repeat the tile cleaning process again. We will not be satisfied until you are 100% satisfied – guaranteed!
